and pm Chassis number and engine code along with year of your bus. Many thanks

Model: VW do Brasil Splitscreen Kombi 15 window bus

Information is limited on VW do Brasil, here's some info on Vin/chassis numbers:

Brazilian built buses vin numbers did not follow the same format as German built buses vins. Nearly all Brazillian production was LHD. It was only the CKD buses shipped from the vw do Brasil factory in kit form to South Africa that were RHD known as the Fleetline.

Vw do Brasil vin info:
The chassis/vin no is stamped into the right hand side engine surround panel. There is also a vin plate located in the cab on the passenger side of the overhead air vent

Brazilian Splitscreen Kombi chassis/vin no were numbered sequentially one after the other until the end of factory production in 1975.

1957-1963 (1200/30 PS)
The vin consists of the sequential chassis number only. eg 30620 was the 306**th vw t2 kombi built in Brazil since 1957. (built in 1961).

1963 (model 1964) - 1967 (1200/30PS)
The letter B (=Brazil) was added to the vin plus one digit (= year of production) + the sequential chassis number. eg B30672** was the 0672**th vw t2 kombi built in Brazil since 1957. (built in 1963). and B71243** was the 124**th built since 1957. (built 1967).

1967 (model 1968) - 1970/71/72 (1500/42PS)
The vin consists of the B + the sequential production number. eg B1843** was the 1843**th built in Brazil since 1957. (built 1967).

1970/71/71 - 1975 (1500/42SP) (End of Brazilian factory built splitscreen kombi t2)
The vin consists of BH plus the sequential chassis number. The H denotes the 1500 engine. eg BH2895** was the 2895**th built in Brazil since 1957. (built 1973). and BH3853** was the 3853**th built in Brazil since 1957. (built in 1975).

if you have any information to add please pm. :D

Hi,

Ok, i have used your info to try and decipher my vin-plate on my panel, and your brasilian deciphering does not make sense.

It is a south african, rhd panelvan, and no, it is not a fleetline - as it does not have the fleetline logo's....
the vin plate is a square of metal, and sits behind the right hand driver seat - i am going to faithfully type it out here, and it will represent the actual plate completely, with spacing, etc:

214B EA001 6604
9-00/68
2051 002 240

First Row:
as you can see, it is a model 21 (panelvan), what the 4 represents, i do not know, the B, could be Brazil, the EA001 is anyones guess, 6604 could be sequential production number.
Second Row:
9-00/68 - i have searched and searched, and found no info on this - again, anyone's guess.
Third Row:
2051 - ?, 002 - ?, 240 - ?

If anyone can assist, please!!!!!

Hi Hardtail

Are you sure it's built in Brazil?

We have a Brazilian Bus, 1960 11 window with a 1200 engine, not yet registered in the UK. Will try to put some more info on later.
Would be interested to hear from anyone else with a pre 15 window brazilian Kombi

That is the point, you see, according to my understanding, a number of the original vans were imported into South Africa at the start - and this is a panelvan - which rules out fleetlines (brazil), because as far as i have been able to determine, those were never imported as panels.

That makes me unsure as to the bus's origins, because no-one here (south africa), usa or europe, or the online resources, has any info on the vin that appears on my bus - i have even written to vw in germany asking for assistance with this, and am still waiting anything other than a pro-forma reply.

At any rate, any information regarding this bus, that anyone can help me with would be appreciated!

Hardtail the above info only relates to vw do Brasil factory production .

South African bus codes are totally different also. look over your bus and try and find parts on the bus that state where they were manufactured. eg speedo face may state a country, parts on the engine if it is still og may have info.

Have you any idea what year your bus is? post a pic it may be helpful in working that out. Your best bet is to contact other S African bus owners and see what info is on their vin plates.

I remember looking at a friends S African bus and the vin plate was totally different to a Brazilian bus and a German factory bus

sorry I couldn't have been any more help, good luck working it out.

I shall get our chassis number and other numbers tomorrow. If someone could de-code it, that would be magnificent.

It's a 15-window also.

Model types which maybe of interest:

Also for all those brazillian parts you maybe unable to source had be shipped over to the UK, plus they seem pretty reasonable..

• VWBrazil Parts http://www.vwantigo.net/shop/index.php?language=en

.....going to be putting myself down for one of these for a start :)
