What engine oil?

What engine oil?

by ally5443 » Tue Oct 11, 2011 11:00 pm
What would be the recommendation for a 1600tp

Gonna do another change, used 15w/50 and 15w/40 before not sure there was much difference. No oil temp gauge.

Thanks
Ally

This is the only oil to use:

Oil, Morris, Classic Golden, Monograde, SAE-30, 5 Litres

Have only ever used this for years now!

The guy who built my engine said to use a very basic 15/40 mineral oil.

Thats what I put in mine.

Go on then I'll add my tuppence worth in!

20w/50 good quality oil but it doesn't stay in there for long as Jersey has 40mph speed limit and the engine never get warm enough so frequent changes are called for!

mobil 1 supper 1000 15w40, also my girlfriend has a new engine and the builder also recommended 15w40

nothing wrong with sae 30 but you should not run it when the ambient temp is below 0

Basic 15/40W mineral oil and nothing else.

Certainly not Synthetic Mobil stuff one as this will cause more harm than good in the long run.

Synthetic oils are a waste of money in the VW engine. They are excellent oils, but they are designed for modern high-performance engines with extended oil changes -- which means the VW engine doesn't count! Synthetic oils don't get hot enough to make use of the synthetics high stability, and the long lasting properties of synthetics are wasted on a VW engine, since most of them have no filter and you HAVE to change the oil every 3000 miles to keep it clean anyway. With such frequent oil changes, the extra expense of synthetic oils is totally wasted.

This site recommends synthetic, I also have an external oil filter like a modern car.

Splitster you say it will.cause more harm in the long run? How?
