From what I remember, but its a long time since I took and engine out, the bolt head is round with one flat on it, sure there a technical name for that shape, but not today from me
Must be about 75-100mm long(?) one bolt that goes all the way through and the other is a nut which holds the other side of the starter motor on.

I await to be corrected!!!

not sure of the length but there is only one D shaped bolt - i always wrap em at the head end with insulation tape and tap them into place with a hammer this transforms the bolt into a captive bolt and allows you to insert the engine on your own as otherwise you have got to have a helper under the van holding the bolt as you do it up

Hi Mark.
Just measured my bolt as I have engine out, it's 110 mm to the bolt head , head is 6 mm thick and 20 mm across the flat section ( d shape )

hi all. a starter- engine to g/box bolt with the flat on the head....6v bolts are shorter that 12v. so if you are using an early box it will be the shorter one and if you are using say an irs box, it will need the longer one.
i'm going to spend most of the day in the workshop today so i'll measure both and get back on here later just in case i'm getting confused with the bolt for the 2.0. i have all of e'm so its a measuring day today!

i've found a couple of these bolts today but they are both the long version. this is the bolt you need for the gearbox you are using. i've got some 6v bolts somewhere but i can't lay my hands on them at the moment. the 6v bolt is a lot shorter.
i also have an IRS box that i've fitted a starter to and passed the bolt through. so i know it works!
