Asset Recovery Unit - Tracker

Asset Recovery Unit - Tracker

by simon@ApuLtd » Fri May 08, 2015 4:26 pm
Afternoon everyone,

A friend of mine that is part of your club (Lizzie who is the proud owner of Bumble the Bus), has pointed me towards your club and believes that the security device we at APU Ltd is a perfect fit for owners.

Is there any interest out there in the group of people wanting to know about the recovery unit we can provide and more importantly its features and benefits?

I don't want to list them all if there isn't any interest as what we have is one step ahead of the thief and the normal hard wired tracker.

Our company is part of a large organisation and can be found at www.apultd.co.uk

Or I can be contacted on 07901513172

many thanks

Simon

Thank you Shelltoes!

So, as most people know a traditional tracker is hidden in your vehicle and at some point will gain its power supply from your vehicle itself, normally located under the dashboard (wired). The modern day thief operates like this:

Steals vehicle
puts a jammer in cigarette lighter straight away, this the jams the signal of the installed tracker
drives vehicle to a safe house/safe location
disables the battery
scans/searches the vehicle for fitted tracker
finds tracker - rips it out and throws it in water or simply destroys it.
Tracker no longer works
takes your vehicle to a rest location, normally leaves in a warehouse/shed or even train station car parks/airport car parks for a period of around 24/36hrs
After this soak period they thief assumes the vehicle is now 'clean' and starts the journey to the end user/destination.

This is a very basic description of what the thief does and the knowledge is built up from the 9 ex police officers we have now working for us at APU Ltd.

Our device which we do not call a tracker but an ARU works differently and has a few more features than the traditional tracker.

The ARU has:
Its own in built power source that last for 3-5 years dependent on reporting rate.
Once the device sends it location it then goes back to sleep mode, thus someone scanning for the device will not pick up a signal
Has a light sensor which when activated sends an emergency alarm to our office staff who then alert yourselves that your vehicle may be under threat
Works on quad band GSM and also operates with GPRS so the device will be able to send and receive globally and tell us where your vehicle is. (We are supported by Vodafone)

Anyone from a technical background I am very happy to send over the technical data sheet for you to look at.

In essence the thief knows most vehicles of worth now have trackers, they also know how to beat the tracker. Our device which is designed in house and has insurance approval is one step ahead of the thief again.

I don't want to come across as a salesman on here as the device once viewed and understood correctly sells itself at a price below almost every tracker companies price.

VW's are getting stolen and we have a device that can find them once stolen.

Again anymore interest or questions please feel free to call me

many thanks

Simon

Sorry for delay in getting back to you all.

Ok figures are as follows:

The unit itself is £170 + Vat
The airtime for the unit is £24 a year but year 1 is not charged so you only start paying for the airtime in year 2 onwards.
Monitoring charge is £2.50 a month.

Those are all the costs, and I am sure you will all agree it is by far cheaper than you all expected.

We currently have around 3000 active devices and 2 of these are proving our global coverage as the vehicles are in Malaysia and Ukraine (both with their rightful owners).

Again as I've said from the start I was referred here by Lizzie Allister who you all can verify through the SSVC Facebook page as she is active on there most days.

Any more details required please ask or give me a call.

If anyone is looking for more of the technical details you can send me an email to ssmith@apultd.com and I will forward you over a Tech sheet.

Thanks again for feedback

So how does this work if the vehicle is say underground or in a steel container ?

Ok the best way to answer is the device works in exactly the same way as it does when its in the open air or in normal condition, the issue with underground or steel containers is that the carrier waves (effectively radio waves in Mhz Ghz spectrum such as GSM plus GPS all rely on the transmission carrier waves penetrating the environment. Underground locations absorb the energy (particularly water/damp) so there is no transmission possible (for any device) and similarly in steel containers the steel/metal shields and absorbs the carrier waves but the absorption spectrum is not the same for all frequencies so the higher frequencies are shielded better than lower frequencies, hence why we use lower frequency bands.

Worldwide communication capability;
TCP/IP or UDP communication protocol
support over GPRS and mobile originated and mobile terminated messages
Qfn8 chip-SIM support
GSM antenna is inside enclosure and sensitive to -105dB

High sensitivity GPS receiver
GPS antenna is inside enclosure
sensitive to -160dB

Motion and position detection sensor

Ambient light intensity sensor support

Temperature sensor support

Power supply
3xAA primary batteries cold soldered and sealed unit.
Battery capacity is sufficient for approximately 36 month operational life
The units are a factory sealed item and are not serviceable in the field.

GPRS communication
According to predefined intervals ranging from 1 minute to 168hrs(1 week) and in the event of an alarm event/detection deep sleep is interrupted.
Modem capable of detecting blocking technologies and will not transmit unless safe to do so.
Fully global roaming functionality

SMS communication
According to predefined intervals and in case of alarm detection. Can use radio control channels no need for pdp context sub 5 seconds

User related parameters and events
Remotely configured by GPRS or SMS

Remote control
Commands received GPRS or SMS

Weight
Approx. 150g including batteries

Operating temperature -20 to +65C

Certifications
CE,GCF,ROHS,WEEE

Device supports POI and Geo fences worldwide

What I would say is that the greatest part of any device like this is the service and support element that it offers, we have a full team of investigators here in the Midlands and we are constantly monitoring and feeding back information to our customers.

As a company we have recently done some work with the BBC for a TV show called Claimed and Shamed where we have used our telematics knowledge to help uncover large motor fraud rings in the Uk

We are hoping that the episode will be screened in June.

As always please ask questions or if you have genuine interest in the device.

Many thanks

Simon

I'm unsure why your unit is better than say a Tracker branded unit which operates on a VHF band with the option of also the GPS and GPM bands ?

Morning Ziggy

thank you for the question,

Tracker products are great at what they do and do everything they say they will.

However based on pure facts and everyday dealings of looking after a fleet of vehicles of 2246 cars that range from Renault Clios - Bentleys it is becoming ever more increasing that the thief knows where trackers are located in vehicles (simple when you think they need to be located close enough to front of the vehicle so they can be wired in to gain power supply), and more importantly the thief knows how trackers operate.

They report their location by whatever means possible constantly. The thief simply jams the signal, scans and looks for device then takes it out. Tracking unit is now disabled.

Our ARU device can be placed anywhere in the vehicle, does not constantly report its position (excellent for VIP's and showbiz who we work with as they don't want to be personally tracked all the time) and if our device is exposed to light it sends an emergency signal with its current location telling us that it is under threat.

Like I said Tracking branded products do what they say they will and we actually use them on our fleet of vehicles but more so for our fleet manager to make sure our company vehicles are out on the road and at the right place at the right time.

However looking after £50 million's worth of vehicles we are working with companies who are getting vehicles stolen on a weekly basis by organised crime gangs.

It is our device the ARU that is giving us the success of finding the cars and not the Tracking units as more than often after 24hrs of vehicle being stolen the tracker is disabled.

Real time situation = a client has a Lexus GS stolen 2 weeks ago, 2 devices attached, 1 x tracker 1 x our device. Yesterday our device reported the location of the vehicle is Oman. Tracker not reported for 5 days now!

Not a good situation for the owner but the device is proving a lot of its features at the moment:

Worldwide location reporting
even if the battery was disconnected for the time car was in a container our device still has power

We are now working on a plan to recover the vehicle...great real time exercise for us guys.
