Had a post in the Devon interiors forum but this has turned into a project so will be adding the details here.

I have owned my RHD split for 5 years, it was a Devon in a previous life but when I bought it there was a home made Devon-ish interior in it which has served me well. The original Devon interior was rotten and thrown out before I got my hands on her. The bus has been great and we have enjoyed all the trips we have been on. However since the birth of my son on trips in camping mode we found we were looking for a bit more space and storage.

So after lurking around here , reading, watching , visiting the shows a wish list started in my head and plans were scribbled down.

Here is my bus with interior before:








It was decided to begin the interior resto and the inside was stripped out. Anyway I always wanted to see the state of the floor.



Once the floor was cleaned up the next step was to add some roof space so a trip on the ferry from Jersey was done and it was booked in with Dormobile.

I know some people will think its sacrilegious cutting a perfectly good tin top. I was a long thought out decision. My son grows bigger everyday, 3 of us sleeping inside on the bed was no fun. We plan to camp in this bus for at least 10 years and I can now put on my jeans in the morning without falling out the cargo doors.











So got to say the guys at Dormobile were excellent, good to deal with, pleased with their work and how it turned out.

Nice bus...do they (Dormobile) fit belly pans as standard ?

Mine had them already but yes they can do and recommend that you do.

How did they finish the leadlining to roof edge please?

Well there's the thing.They don't have any decent edge trim extrusion. The straight edge and bowed edge is just a metal frame, and quite sharp where it sits on the headliner. So still a problem. Dormobile don't have anything better anymore and they have tried to make pieces or have pieces made that don't work well. Planning to finish that bit off in a nice bit of oak. I did tell them if they had something better they would sell them.

Not at all….its exactly what Devon, Dormobile and Westfalia did in the 60's if the customer requested it, so no different if its done today, in my opinion

Hiya Jaysk - out of interest - what is the ballpark figure for a brand new dormobile roof, and fitting?

Well that depends.

It was about £4000 to do everything, including a colour match spray job of the cap. That also includes a few extras, 2 bunks with covers, carpet lining on the roof cap and mirror fitting. There are choices to make to get the price to vary. They will sell you one to fit yourself and the new caps they have are really good quality.

As maddy says no different to what the convertors did!

Is the hole the same size as the OG opening...could you measure between the faces?

I am tempted to get some extrusion tools made and extrude some!
Costa del fortune i fear...and I just want some for a Gentlux hole...
I have not found a solution... I do have an OG set but have not fitted them...They have patina but I cannot drag myself to cut them...

May l suggest you guys look on the Osterman site, sorry l don't have the connection to hand. they have sent through their latest aluminium extrusion catalogue and its comprehensive to say the least

The OG Dormobile roof opening was extruded PVC....to give a profiled but rounded softer edge.

The size of the hole is
1100mm width
1830mm length

So we started to experiment with edge trim. Results - pretty good. Have to be careful not to crease but as ever taking your time gets the job done.
