my 1776cc build
by caveman » Wed Mar 25, 2015 4:41 pm
Soo before i start ive had rather a spate of bad luck with engines in the past 2 years. Il post a link to the previous engine builds asap but suffice to say i paid good money and got turds.
So i am going to build a 1776cc twin kadron engine with scat c25 cam external oil filtration and cooling with inline thermostat for an in line cooler too.it will have a speedshop pressure relif oil pump take off and melling 30mm oil pump.and will be built around a brandnew autolinea race case.
the reason for the spec is that its the parts i have left over from the last engine i built that was incorrectly linebored so suffered a seizure. Luckily all the internal parts survived untouched!
Wish me luck this is my 3rd engine build so im still very green lol

So i have bought the bearings as i need them to do some checks, i have got steel backed bearings as i was told they were the best. And have new con rod bearings too along with genuine vw double thrust cam shaft bearings
Ill post pics when they turn up. - its getting exciting as ive also borrowed all the tools from my mate to measure everything correctly etc

Right so the bearings turned up. All was well until i checked the main bearings they are the wrong size. Ill have to send them back get to get the right ones
I decided to weigh the cases as the autolinea case is a heavy weight.
The vw as41 case weighs 11.220 kgs
The autolinea weighs 18.170 kgs !!!!!!!!!
that's quite some difference really
whats weird is that heritage quote the case as weighing 20.35 kgs my scales are calibrated so where has the 2 kg difference come from?
I tried to measure the bearing journals and all i can say is ade must have a very steady hand. . I couldnt for the life of me get a consistent reading. - ill try again when im feeling relaxed and calm lol

Are you going to drill out all the oil gallery plugs and tap them? I've just drilled and pulled out all the plugs in my Autolinea case to make sure it's all clean. I only have the standard case though.
