New bus

by sjohn821@aol.com » Tue Aug 04, 2015 5:26 pm
Hi Guys, Not exactly a new bus, but new to my son and I.
I will post some photos and ask advice along the way.
I read that drop box is an option to upload the photos, is this the best way?
One question before I go make a mess,
How much tin work can I cut at once without warping anything?
My rust is almost all around the base of the bus, floors and sills.
I cut the Cargo floor out, what was left of it,
The cross members where rotten at the sills, but solid in the middle,
I cut the beams of up to the center of the main beam, this seems to have left the centre beams solid, and saves taking all the pipe work out.
BUT
Is the correct way, or should I just cut the beams off and replace them all new?
I will submit some photos when I get them uploaded.
Advice is always welcome, I can see a long haul ahead, but its what we signed up for and new what was ahead.

Looking great, just plod at it, take one out put the new one in, don't be too tempted to remove too much at once as you need reference points for the new panels. Use the rides and projects pages for help as they are an awesome source of help and guidance, in particular Markp and Rusty's restos, great photos throughout and lots of helpful tips!

Biggest thing though is to enjoy it! Its great to see another father son resto.

The interior parts and windows look like westy parts, you want to go through the m plate and see if it was one originally, what ever you two off don't rush and sell!!

You would have to tell me where the m plate is located?

Should be fitted on the bulkhead behind the cab seats.

Gents, i hope you see this as I'm trying to post through my phone. Im currently half way across the north sea heading for Norway to land fresh caught herring, internet is not great on board but it keeps us in contact with home

The picture is from the plate behind the passengers seat.
Im interested to find out what one gent said about it being a westy?
Whats your thoughts, and please explain your decipher???

If you go on the samba you should be able to find lists of the codes and what they mean

Use the m plate decoder app to decipher your m plate. You can access it by clicking on mine in my signature to this post.
