Here goes, hi all, a few years ago I bought a '65 after not a lot of hunting.
After selling my modified t4 and getting a t5, we went to a vw show to get parts to hop up the t5. Not having much luck in finding what I liked, the boss (wife) said she fancied a splitty!
Not a chance was the reply she got, I could never afford one of those! Being an ex panel beater/painter she said to find a project. Even then I was sceptical.
The next day my mate said have you looked on uk barn finds on Facebook. First thing that popped up was a 65 split with a lot of panels. Clicked on link and it was 5 mins away, bearing in mind we live in the arse of the world, it was meant to be! This story bring me to now, 2 1/2 yrs later ( ironman wales training lost me a year) , back into the garage when time allows.
Please feel free to abuse me if I stop, motivation needed.
Cut off front panel, new n/s front chassis leg fitted and other front parts needed.
Started on cargo floor this morning ready to fit two outriggers, centre section and front top hat.
Wish my garage was dry as I'd get her blasted if it was.
Didn't use the top hat or outrigger it came with as they were very thin compared to autocraft parts. Want it strong for my kids safety.
Hopefully more to come soon.....

Anybody know if you can get the chassis leg closing panel new or is it a part that needs to be fabricated

Post a photo of what your after.

This panel here in last two pics, opposite side to the first one if you understand where I mean.
Looks like be rusted a good way up where the leg has held good old USA dust/dirt. Thanks for the reply. Love your work bdp !!

Not the bulkhead piece. Sorry, my pic skills are rubbish. It's the piece that folds into the chassis leg and looks like it goes all the way up to seat base (inner wing). Where centre crossmember welds too

Can I ask, is it 1.2mm sheet for panels and 2mm for chassis?

Yes but if your are making your own the thicker the better really.

We normally make chassis repairs from 3mm

Back on it after a very long time doing nothing! Bought nearly all the panels I need, cleaned up chassis legs, welded in some of the floor braces, cut off front and wheel tub. Even moved the old girl into a garage I can crack on in!!

Surprised how good the metal was on the rear chassis closing panel. No such luck on the front one s
Also thought I’d had no pics of welds before grinding, not the best, but they are solid!!!
