My Van is not the only thing in need of 'Restoration'
So I'm out of action for a while, and have been sorting all my van stuff in to order.

i've got an early 60 bus with one of these cross over engines, i originally tried to stay true to original spec , its really hard. my chassis is 56xxxx i think.

i too bought alot of stuff then found it was wrong for the year. not been so disciplined to sell it again.

its like archeology, looking for clues online and in books, even two years later i keep finding new info on the samba which changes my understanding of what was correct.

theres some great unrestored cars on that costamesse guy's site where he's taken great detail photos. you can look while the foot gets better.

keep posting the updates.

that motor he's offering looks bang on ******* style, even the fuel pump and kink in the metal vacuum pipe are correct for late 59 to 61. bas vw in germany will be able to machine it for you. the cam shaft runs without sleeve bearings and is very tricky to machine, i was told. all the local guys i took mine to didn't want to touch it. just said throw it! the one in phot looks very complete. you'll need the tinware in front of the motor too if he has it. thats year specific too.

if your going this route let me know i, good to know i am not the only one interested in these 36hp motors.

Hi there Phil,
Looking at the bumpers, yours is a US brochure where as the pics on mine all show Euro bumpers & all the pics are different.
I love the one showing the sealing wax red/beige grey bus with the blue/grey interior. Thats exactly what I hope mine will eventually look like.
I will post more pics of mine for you to see the difference(No I wont, I will get my son Paul to do it cause I dont know how    )
I think you will love the double page pic when I can get Paul to post it.
I would like to get some work done on the bus now the better weather is hear but with my foot in plaster till at least the end of April its getting a bit frustrating. :( :(

Steve

Hi all,

Haven't achieved a great deal this year as in progress!! just been acquiring all the stuff I need....

I have all my panels except the long panel to make a good start on the chassis in 2016, I have 90% of all the parts to get it built inside and out 'trim wise.'
Still on the look out for a correct speedo and a few other bits and pieces. (Im sure I will find out half of what I have isn't the correct bits but id rather be told as I want this right first time.)

I now have the correct Engine acquired just needs a rebuild.

Looking forward to making a start next year with the help and knowledge from you guys on here.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Steve.
