Great thread.
I always thought a roll cage is something that is not done enough on these splits.
That and a flipped gearbox tdi conversion.

Thanks!
Im all about the safety mate, with the family on board and just a sheet of 0.8 steel in front of them, the cage is the least I can do to look after us all.
As for the flipped gearbox Tdi its gotta be done!!
Cheers

Progress again. Just going to post the photos as Ive talked too much on here over the past week and I can guarantee you are all fed up of my waffling on...
This one is specifically for Rusty!! It fits still!
And the rest...

Such a huge milestone, sooo happy! Managed to get a few bits in the last bit, think it blew out of the inner gutter but it needs sanding back anyways for filler primer!

Glad the ashtray still fits. Forward planning is key. As long as that still fits, all other mod's may be forgiven

Seriously, it's looking good. Keep going

Told you, no one noticed!!
Sorry for the delay, been away with the family so not had a fat lot of time on the bus. Before I went I got a couple of free hours to get the side panel prepped and stuck on.
I left it whilst we were away so its all nice and rigid now ready for the paint!
Sanded off the front end where the bits out of the inner gutter landed in the paint and popped a tiny skim of filler in the bits I had missed...
Then it was onto the donor to finally remove the engine. Dads removed all the loom and is currently sorting through it all to separate the engine loom from the other junk we wont be using. All the ancillaries are off too so this is whats left...
Just got to remove the gearbox now, needed an M10 star fitting so that stopped play, once we have that its time to start fabricating the mounts and get this bad boy in its new home.
Told you there wasn't much to report
more next week hopefully as I will be back to normal. Ive ordered an 11mm pump, and a set of injectors now, going to sort out a set of I beam rods next week and the gasket kit for the engine. Also managed to get the wedge sump to allow mounting at 50 degrees off eBay. Decided to sell this too,
its too small
going bigger, fitting a modded turbo originally fitted to the 3.0tdi Q7, should be good for around about 270bhp on this motor and still capable of 45mpg plus!!! Hehe
, got a guy who does the race support for Mercedes F1 on hand now advising me, he's awesome, sorted me out with some ideas and he's going to rolling road it for me to get the best out of the engine! Need to sort a proper intercooler and oil cooler though...
Laterz!

Hell yeah, liking the sound of the bigger turbo.
I like a turbo'd lump, with a tweak and a remap, the Mrs loves it in her daily.
Lots done, lots to do. Keep at it as its defo giving me inspiration to continue with the next phase on our bus. Thank you.

With it being 50 degrees do you still need to change the oilfield housing? I'm debating on doing the conversion on mine.

Sorry pal not been on here for a little while properly so missed these, life's been crazy, my 10 month old has been really ill so been out of it all for a while.
Hope to be back on it this week a little all bein well!! Its more the other way round with inspiration, looking at ur van and how far its come along over the years gives me motivation to keep going so our kids can have the same...
Out of interest, whats the wife drive and whats it remapped to??

Yes you need the sump off a T25 1.6jx engine, they are pretty hard to find though so make sure you can get one before you get too stuck in, its taken me 9 months to find one

Go for it on the conversion, just make sure the cooling is well and truly taken care of first, the its a piece of cake!! If you need any pointers, drop me a PM

Cheers buddy! And thanks for the seam sealer again, cant believe how much Im using, Ive created to many seams!!!
Havent posted much on here of late as its all boring water cooled stuff and don't want to upset the forum

Did manage to remove the five speed box though from the donor car today, got it roughly in place just to have a measure up of driveshaft lengths and clearance, got some machining to do to the bell-housing and mods to the mounts but made a few sketches today and will play with the CAD a little in between now and the next day I get up there.

Garden is next on the list so time will be reduced on the bus but it will still be ticking along dont worry! Need to be with Markp at VF and the AGM next year!!

Good to see you getting on with it. Your deadline is the same as mine
but you seem to know what to do with engines and gearboxes and axles............... I haven't got a clue
I'll be able to sort the electrics tho' I hope
Keep going
Steve
