The with a fresh lease of life after seeing all thought nice interiors I decided to trim the tops of my cargo doors ......... So we all know I can play with metal but can I turn my hands to a bit of trim work 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

So I'm not saying this is correct ......... I'm just showing you How I did my door tops today..

First make sure all area are clean and covered so ya don't upset the Mrs by spraying glue all over the table

Image

The correct stuff to do the job I got this from the Head Lining makers ( wonderlandclassics.com ) Chris who run's / owns it is really helpful and spent a long time chatting to me about what headlining I wanted and was best for me and my family

Image

First I cut a peace out to do the top of the door then I cut a hole for the locking bars

Image

I then masked the door so I didn't get glue everywhere ....... Should not of bothered as I decovered it cleans off easy with degreaser as advised by Chris ,,,,,,,, should of trusted the expert

Image

Image

Image

spray the door and the headlining material leave the glue for about 40 seconds .......... and to my surprise is didn't feel sticky ........ BUT WOW...... touch them together and it sticks lick SH*T to a blanket ..... great stuff to work with

Image

once happy with the top half I glued the lower half

Image

Image

Image

trim where you want the material to end ..... your choice

Then I popped the side window in .......Rubber seam great .... nice and tight and a good fit

so choose you rop / wire that you are going to put ya window in with ........ I choose wire as it will not snap on you when you pull the window rubber onto the door

Image

Run the wire into the rubber grove that with go over the window metal joint

Image

Be sure to end at the bottom and in the middle ....... Also make sure your window is the correct way around ...... look for the stamp on the glass in one of the corners

Image

Pull the wire though the door and then push the window into place

Image

Give the window a good smack to get it onto the correct place ....... a nice flat hand work well

Image

Pull the wire nice and tight leavel with the glass ..... kind of like ya nuckles are nearly touching the glass as you pull ensuring the rubber flops over the door edging on the window frame

Image

Image

as you got every now and then hit the glass again and again as you go around .... this helps the rubber to sit were you need it to sit

Image

Job done

the other door came out well too

Nice work as awlays Mark.

Now if I am wrong somebody please say so.

I done my cargo door seals and had problems getting them to close, part of the reason was there are bits of supporting bar in the cargo door that push seal out, and I think I can see it on your door there Mark, by the window.

When the van has it's seal in and they aren't "worn in " the cargo doors just don't want to close.

I took a stanley knife to he back of my seals so that when seated they were flat.

However the cargo doors were still really tight and I could barely close them.

One of my learning curves that I'd like to share.

Thought I had the door closed, only just, and was trying to pull the handle up but it was really stiff. I thought it was that because I hadn't got the door quite closed that there was a lot of friction between the latch and the plate on the other door that it slides against.
But I could pull the handle up, it was coming up so the latch had to be sliding shut right.

WRONG

what had happened was I hadn't shut the door enough and the latch wasn't sliding as it had hit the side of the plate, but I was pulling that handle up until it snapped off in my hand !

Here's the tip.

Should you find your doors difficult to close and you can't get the latch over the slider plate, undo the latch mechanism from the inside ( 4 big phillips screws ) so there is some play. Close the door and the latch will slide over the slider plate, then tighten the 4 screws up and leave shut for a few days or a week to let them "bed in".

Have fun Mark, this is the best bit, making everything look nice.

Great work as always on your bus and your latest update on trimming the doors couldn't come at a better time for me! I'm just planning out an interior makeover on my bus (headliner, door cards etc) and weighing up whether I can do it or not! Having seen your thread I know what I'm up against which really makes a difference!

Looking forward to the next installment!

Cheers
