err I have done the same...I suspect the "bits" you are describing was the seal which fits inside the top of the body to seal the plunger going in and out. I took apart many old locks just to find complete seals. If you are doing this seek out the seal and carefully remove it.
I soak my bits in white spirit to clean out all the oil and grease. Do not soak the seal in white spirit....it swells. When I reassemble I use a locksmith's graphite puffer as the only lubricant.

Hi Jay sorry must of missed your post as was last on the page
Thanks for the info although it doesn't cover the area I had in question
Its the actually mechanisms in the doors I'm having issues with as in these guys
one side is worst then the other but the better side will allow you to be able to open the door from the inside, the other side won't and also doesn't seem to want to stay locked. I took them out and gave them a quick clean and greased them but I think I may have to do them again and give them a deep clean. I think the main problem thou is the springs inside, one side has one missing (oddly the better side) and I'm not sure if there are any others missing.
Can you get replacement springs for these?

Not done a think since that last update
I've gone really negative about finishing it again.. which is crazy as its probably a long weekends work to get it ready for MOT.. I just don't have my head in it at the moment
