Hi guys, managed to get an hour in after work tonight.

Finished the seam weld on the door skin and flatted off with the sander. Trial fitted it to make sure it's all ok before I spot weld around the outside tomorrow, got the other cargo door lined up ready for tomorrow morning.

Need some more M6 countersunk screws to sort out the top hinge. Mounted the door and checked alignment all good.

Got started on the drivers door and stripped the top off and assessed the damage.

Got started early this morning, surgery on the drivers door commenced.

Drilled out the rivets for the lower hinge.

Image

Next marked up for the first cut.

Image

Trimming back revealed allsorts of nastys.

Image

The hinge mounting was damaged so needs reinforcement.

Fully welded hinge support

Marked up the inner repair and installed.

What are the fixings that hold the hinge on to the door originally? On mine it looks like some kind of countersunk rivet but it's hard to see as it's covered in weld spatter and paint.

The standard fixings are counter sunk rivets, machine fitted I would think.

Just waiting for me primer to dry before I attack the outer skin some more!

Got a couple of hours in tonight!

Made a start on the outer skin, first cleaned up the inner and primed it, got it all trimmed up and clamped in place.

Yeah that's the ones, think I will end up doing the same as you and drilling out then putting countersunk pins or screws in too, what have you put on the back? Is it drilled and tapped or you got nuts on there? Builds moving fast now, looking really good, it's a really cool van.

Hey Stu there's nuts on the back of them with large washers to spread the load.

Cheers for the comments guys, I'm really trying to push the build on now as I want it finished this year.

Finished the outer door skin off this evening, welded fully along the seam at the lowest temp to minimise distortion.

Once cleaned and dressed, I dressed the edging all the way around, it turned out really well. Some cleaning to do inside before primer. Also need to re drill the hinge holes and mount the hinge.

First I need to replace the hinge pin as it is worn out.

Pictures anyway.

Very happy with the outcome! Trial fit was good also. Time for primer and seam sealer next!
