I'm looking at sorting out the heater pipe but its too short...... although I do have a sleeve of the old pipe. Is this OG? Would we cut the pipe and sleeve so it fits?

OK then - update time. Bit of work done, both arches closed by the bulkhead, doglegs off and on both sides, longside panel on, cab floor repaired both sides, front skin off and valance removed and replaced. Engine bay cleaned and acid etched too. Front skin offered up and fits not bad!

Wolfsburgwest fronts are great!

I've fitted a few of the cheaper ones, lots of pulling and pushing just to get it on, but these are just amazing.

Top work your doing, that's going to be a great van when finished.

Cheers chaps, I wanted to save the front end but it had rust round the the frames, rust and the bottom and was badly dented In the middle. A gonner I'm afraid.

I would agree on the fit of WW stuff- spot on. Getting the panels from Custom and Commercial however, was a bit less trouble free - 3 weeks for delivery if I remember correctly.

I will pass on the compliments about the welding to Simon at my Dad's place ( in Cornwall) where the steelwork is being done - I can't take credit for that! Fit outs are my area so that will be down to me.

Markp - it's got to be said, your thread is an inspiration. When we got to chopping whole panels out, I was sweating a bit less having seen what you dealt with!

Small update, Scofields came up trumps and fabricated a part of engine firewall for me - and delivered 2 days later. Top service and nice chaps. Old mangled hole (to access fuel sender I would imagine) cut out, new metal let in and welded up:

Update time, floors in - took a while to fit the LH floor in a RH bus but its tricky to get RH floors apparently.

and from underneath, including new control pipes:

Off with the old (and botched) IRS and on with the Creative alternative - fair bit of sand in that beam!

Seatbelt anchor points and bench seat mounts fitted:
Image
Bulkhead fully closed in wheel arches and front clip / valence all completed:
Image
Rear 1/4 fitted and welded into place:

And finally, the bus's new colour (bottom half anyway). Correct for a 1959 Type 1 and I liked it so, close enough for me!

Looking really nice, a lot of metal work gone on there. I bet you're really pleased to have got this far.

Thanks clymoj, yes - quite a bit of work - perhaps more metal work required that initially thought.......... I don't think its unusual with these though! I'm trying to do as much with steel rather than filler and it was so badly dented at the start, there weren’t many straight panels to work with.

I will be even happier when it goes for paint!

Nice work there mate, looks like good progress and done the right way, almost reaching the end of our rebuild and like you trying to get it as good as I can.
Been doing it all at home in my garage, paint stage and prep seems to take longer than the welding work, just over a year later almost there.
Keep up the good work and take your time.
