Both the centre crossmembers have been replaced now and we have had to do some repairs to the chassis and cut out some rot where the crossmember/chassis meet, nothing to unusual there i suppose.
there's a bit more finishing to do on the chassis outer sides but we'll do these when the outriggers go on
Now to tackle the rear one
Out it goes and some chassis repair work
In goes the new one
Next it's on to the top hats and outriggers.
Front one next and once it's off we can do some local repairs to the lower bulkhead and do the B post lower repair.
happy days, getting there.

No worries Mark, well pleased with the panels, Rob's used them before and as he said cheaper in the long run as they fit well so you save time with little or no fettling to get a nice fit.
Know where your coming from about being busy, seems there's always something needing a bit of your time.
Trailer coming on nice i see, going look cool as
Laters

Managed to get a day with Rob today and make a bit more progress,
fitted the front offside outrigger and tophat, repaired the bulkhead and rear arch/sill section, trial fitted the long sill and cleaned off the underseal
from both front wheel tubs.
Here's the pics
Great therapy ................now where's my wine.

Hi,
Time for a midweek update and piccy porn.
First item was to finish attaching the repaired posts to the inner sill
Finish off the sill end/arch repairs
This is the black coating you can see on all the new panels and repairs, will help until the primer is on.
Front dog leg removed, the tub and floor are all good.
Now we need to prep the long side for the new sill,as you can see we had to go for the largest one they do because of the damaged caused by the previous bodge of fitting a sill over an existing one and making good with a ton of bondo.
But at least it'll be gone and done right now.
New panel swaged and tial fitted, we trimmed the panel slightly before using the joggler so it will fit just under the horizontal inner braces.
Tricky bit is now trying to weld without to much distortion, time for a wet sponge and loads of patience.
Lead loading will make good the seam
Trial fit of the front arch to make sure everything lines up, all looking good.

Coming on nicely mate, you can't beat a bit of fresh metal when the tin worm's had its way.
See you soon I'm sure.
Cheers.

There's more tin worm in the skip than on the bus now................ best place for it.
More progress today and a big milestone, the long side sill fitted
First job was to finish the I beams on the offside.
Then onto the sill and and slide it in under the original side panel, as you can see wee trimmed it to fit just below the horizontal stiffeners.
[
At this point we decided to screw it on instead of welding..... this way you get no heat distortion.................Loads of filler will cover up the heads....

Now back in the real world lol, the screws help pull in the panel tight, once the panels secure we'll weld the screw holes.
Panel glued to the stiffeners
Final check for levels
Tack it in place
Then time to break out the spotter
Time to measure the spot weld gaps.............................I know dont say anything..
And away we go
Now for the plug welds
And then clean them up
Now we can remove the screws and with me holding a dolly on the inside of the hole Rob can weld each one up as we move along one by one.
A bit of the Hydrate 80 treatment and were ready for lead loading
That's it for today, onto the offside dogleg tomorrow. and finally a shot of the last 50 in the life of this bus.......... 10 colours.

Evening all,
as promised, a small update but another big milestone.
Front dog leg fitted.
Final prep of the tub
wheel arch in and a bit of tweaking to line it up
And finally welded and sealed, door gaps are spot on, well done Rob.
I guess that's about it for the offside, some cargo floor work to do but we'll do this when we've finished the nearside ( next weeks project)

Hi, cheers,
The only proper resto the bus has had in its 55 year life. Should be good for many more now.
Looks like it spent the early years in a yellowish colour, Swiss post/ phone company perhaps.
Need to get a birth certificate and do some research I think.

Yes...that was exactly my thoughts. ..
That was the reason for the question...
Dave is restoring a bus which sated life with exactly the same first colour coat..My thoughts was either post office or airline...
