Bus is being prepped for paint..
Pics to follow
Meanwhile,,
where can i get a full , complete, everything needed
for an IRS conversion on my '66 westy,
A-Arm mounts,
A-Arm pivot bolts,
A-arms,
CV Joints & Shaft,
Spline shafts,
Brake drums,
Back plates,
Hub to A-arm/spring plate bolts,
Gear Box,
Spring plates,
Hubs/ Bearing carriers
((have i listed everything needed?))
I mean everything..
from one source,,
I'm all about saving leg work..
i.e. prefer not to go trawling scrap yards etc..
AFAIK, Volksheaven do it, but seem expensive?? (£700)
maybe i'm wrong,
also, anyone deal with these guys before..?
Are their parts of a decent standard.?
Thanks, D.C.

Much respect for saving another Westy
I can't believe your dedication - nearly 2 years since you started the project and I guess hundreds of hours of labour.
The results look excellent - keep the updates coming

Been following this thread for some time.
Great work mate, and it's good to see another SO42 being resurrected

The Donor T25.
1987 1.6 Diesel 4 Speed.
and proceeded to gut it of the parts I wanted off it..
After a lot of head scratching and fabrication and cutting,
We eventually got the Engine and Gearbox and Entire Running Gear from The T25 incl. Shocks, Springs and and Trailing arms..

Well I've taken the plunge and ditched the Gear Selector Tube of the T25.
Mostly due to how sloppy it was.
Like a wooden spoon in a bucket of soup.
And. My radiator setup. Between chassis rails. Is a hindrance.
So. I've Futbus and Anton Cowell designed T25 Cable Change Gearlinkage conversion almost fully test fitted.
Here's what it'll look like connected to the T25 GearBox.
Albeit slightly different mounting brackets.
Hopefully. I'll get a chance to hook it up by the weekend.

Finally It's alive.
All 4 Forward Gears are Quite easily Got.
Reverse is a little close to 1st, but it does work too.
Really happy with the progress so far.
hope to get it out and get it for a test drive on a private lane when I get some brakes sorted.

Ok. Finally got a few Quid together and gathered some bits for my brake upgrade.
Genuine 6j &7j 16 Fuchs. €450
The wheels need a ReFurb alright.
I'm gonna take the petals back to Polished look with innerspring black.
That won't cost me anything.
Only time.
Tackled my hubs calipers and discs fitting today.
From the picture above.
On the right is the 944 n/a Hub removed off its own spindle and separated from its disc.
On the bottom left is the inner and outer bearing from the 944 hub.
Middle left are the bearing spacers from Lanner's Kit (vdubengineering)
And Top left are the inner and outer Bearing Races from the 944 hub.
(The smaller race I pushed out easy enough myself.
For The bigger races I gave the two hubs to a local machine shop and asked them to pull them out.)
The other black circular part nearest the hub is the Grease Seal that Lanner provides.
Then I assembled the hub again so to speak.
I put in The bearing spacers in first each side.
Then pressed in the Bearing Races over the spacers.
Finally placed in the well greased bearings.
And then pushed in the grease seal to sit flush with the edge of the hub.
So with the disc cleaned up a bit.
I bolted the disc and hub back together.
And set about stripping the Splitty Drums off the front beam to reveal
It's spindles.
Then I bolted up the Caliper Carrier/Bracket from Lanner's kit.
CamPhone died then so it was time for the tea while the phone charged.
I couldn't wait for the phone after I had the Tea gulped.
So finished that side in the meantime.
By that time the phone had charged
So
I went and did the same as above for the right hand side of the bus.
Here is the early Porsche 944 non turbo assembly all bolted together with Lanner's kit on the front of my Splitty.
Opposite side to the previous pictures,
Just to avoid confusion.
And here is one of the Fuchs bolted to the new Bus front brake setup.
The Fuchs will look like this when I'm finished.
Polished Petals.
Old Skool.
Next Installment is the Master Cylinder and Servo attempt Extravaganza.
Along with fitting brake lines.
Never ever done brakes before.
So it could be interesting.
after some sterling discussion with 'Kai' and '13 Window' from vwkd.co.uk
It was elected that I go for a Direct Action Servo rather than a Remote Servo.
seeing as though I now have two.
MadMick's 944 ATE Servo
and the 944 GIRLING one I bought as a bundle off the Porsche 944 Breaker.
So..
No use trying to fit my Servo to the drivers side of the splitty beam.
It has to go on the other side,
(Note to self)
This servo might be leaking, maybe some fluid escaped after it was no doubt laid up after being removed from the 944.
Hence some sort of rotating linkage was needed to push the servo rod in even though it was mounted on the opposite side to the brake pedal...
So, I fabbed one up from a
1992 Ford Escort Van that was scrapped on my uncles farm.
So after Ripping the Servo Linkage and indeed Servo from the Previously Rat Infested Van.
I moved the two linkage eyes to suit my brake pedal lever and servo push rod.
Tipex marks the spots.
The two rotating linkage eyes being cleaned up here prior to rewelding on to the servo bar.
And YES I would've been quicker just making the above linkage from scratch myself,
Ah well..
you live and learn..
Anyway I have this tacked into place and its moving the pushrod of the servo somewhat.
Hard to tell effectiveness,,
without Vacum hooked up and Brake lines fitted,
I'll put pics of servo and new linkage for same, soon...
So.
Took her outside in the sunshine to take her for a spin around the farmyard.
Sitting waaay to high at the back.
As a result. The driveshafts are reaching too far and straining the cv joints.
I'll probably raise the spring and shock mounts and refit the standard T25 shocks and springs or BMW 3 Series Rear Springs (heard this is an option for lowering a T25)
Anyway.
I've a feeling my steering box is foooked as its a bit dodge in the steering dept.
Anyway here's a pic and a video.
Click to play
So no brakes yet.
Note to self.
Get the finger out.

Cool pics of the spaceman
Looked like fun and I bet the satisfaction of the finished article is awesome. Gotta get under mine with a wire brush on an angle grinder at some point as I don't think my neighbours will swallow a sand blaster down the driveway
I'm liking the rotisserie as well, makes life so much easier. Good work fella !!
