Image

but to my surprise all the pins cams out without to much trouble.

been spending time away from the garage sourcing and making (well kind uncle helped make) parts for the brake conversion, not quite as simple as a bolt on mod.

the whole surface of the bearing sits on flats with out overlaping the taper, but theres still latural play on the spindle, so Ill need a spacer some where on the outer bearing.

spacer for the inner bearing
Image

gap from spacer, Ill make a plate to mount front calipers to fit here

Image

Brembo calipers, Pair with bigger pistons will go on the front. they need a bit of cleaning up and a couple of new seals,
Image
New rear disc trialed on 924 swing arms, need a spacer to fit the calipers on centerly

Nice work going on here mate. I've been working on the porsche brakes as well, ive managed the adaptor and thought of 4mm and 6 mm spacer but not tried the spacers yet. I've also been working on the rear so i can keep using the irs. I plan on using the splines from 64-67 rear drums i can take some pics if your interested. its all on the back burner as got welding to do and a baby on the way.

Its been over a year since Ive posted on here so I thought I better get this up to date.
Although its been slow over 2008 this year theres been a lot more work going on in the garage.

For a start the van got a new home. It just fits into the garage. And luckly theres a house at the end of the garden for the girlfriend.
Image
Ive patched up my cargo door bottoms inside
Image
and out also repaired the front of the rear wheel arch.
Image

welded the materiar back onto the cargo door latches
Image

I stripped out the rest off the interior
Image

and for some strange reason thought it would be a good idear to pull up the floor.
Image

Kept it in one piece in case I needed to put it back again
Image

I just need to know how to put it back together

More detail on the Blog below.

Well since the floor has been out Ive been busy cutting away the rusty sills and jacking points
Image

Repairing the front inner wheel arch and B piller
Image Image
Image Image

cutting and forming all the repair sections for the chassis
Image Image

fitted new right and left sills
Image Image

patching up the chassis rails where any rust has been hiding
Image

cut away the cross supports and cleaned up the chassis rails
Image Image

I welded together the "I" beems drilled them and fitted them in place
Image
Image

Just before I finished I thought id weld on the new jacking points and see what the new floor looked like.

lets see what could happen in the next 6 months

I saw your blog via your post on the 944 forum.

Nice work there.

Couple of things though - the bearing spacer for the inner bearing on the front hub should go into the hub, and then the bearing put on afterwards. The way you have it in the picture the bearing is not fully supported as it is sitting on the tapered part of the spindle.

And for the rear brakes - I'd be amazed if you got the aluminium arms to work Fuch's on the back. Even with a spacer between the springplate and the A arm - they will still poke out too far to fit and early wheel.

did you always live around sutton

Hi yep lived in and around sutton most my life, The vans been tucked away in a garage here for over 10 years before i finally got started on it.

Did you stop by in your van just after paint with only one side cut and polished? that was the only van I ever saw localy, except a blue and white camper hidden behind some broken garage doors in worcester park, guarded by a grumpy old bloke.

Funnily enough thats my camper I think (Worcester Park) and the grumpy old bloke was the next door neighbor !?! Mines been sat there for 11 years and is now in my mates garage in Kingston. Restoring her with a Porsche 3.0 litre lump ;) !!! Mo.
