Sorry guys, really poor on the updating front. Things are progressing really well with the van and there is loads to bring you up to speed with. Dave and his crew have been really pushing ahead and things are slowly coming together. Over the next few days i will try and keep the update back on track through pic updates.

Van loaded and on it's way to the blasters, back in a week.

Interesting - another rhd changeover bus and walk through as well. Any info on the history of this one?

Unfortunately not much history to the van, it's been sat in my garage for far to many years having brought the van from a guy near Southend. What's the best way to try and obtain some history to her?

Sorry for my basic knowledge, but what is meant by "cross-over" , does that refer to the 63/64 year? Indeed a RHD walk through, looking forward to bringing back the life.

defiantly more photos on their way...........

Yes the 'change over' years are the production years from 62 - 63, I think probably August of those years, but no doubt someone with greater knowledge of chassis / part numbers and dates will know better.

Obviously every year saw some development change, but 62-63 marked significant visual and mechanical change.

Mechanically it was the change from 3/4 ton to 1ton running gear (Steering knuckles, 14" rims, bigger brakes and revised transmission ratios in combination with the 1500 sp engine)

Visually it was the last years of the small rear hatch / window, bullet indicators and the start of the amber and red rear lights. The ends of the bumpers changed from 'slash cut' to rounded. And i think the 'church key' operation of the engine lid and petrol flap was one of the last features to change - although this may be in the 64-65 production year.

There are some interesting features that only exist for this transition period as well - recessed cab door pull handles and a swagged rear wheel arch lip but with protruding engine louvres are two that spring to mind. I think a Volkswagen emblem on the engine lid hinge panel only ran for one year.

I'm no experts on the exact changes and exact dates, but this period can be seen as the last significant development period to the split before it was super seceded by the bay.
It's also a period that can through up some odd anomalies in terms of certain parts speced on certain vehicles. For example Andy's late August 61 ambulance ( in the build thread) appears to have come as standard with the two tone rear lights although I believe it's about 11 months prior to production line fitment of this style of rear light.

Lets try and bring things up to speed. The van returns from the blasters, etch primed and revealing some front impact damage and plenty of filler. However all in all not too bad.

It is official, I am the worst person at updating progress on my van. So as a matter of catch up (and I know people like photo's), here is a library of all the excellent work Dave and his team have been upto over the last few months.

Whenever I see this, I never really understand why a dented panel full of holes is better than a dented panel 8O :?:

Whenever I see this I think of the video on thesamba i watched where the guy inflates a football/rugby ball behind the panel and pops it out. I'll see if I can find it.
