The 1234 HX series, numbers 1 to 5999 was issued in Middlesex from Feb 60 to Mar 61 - allocated in blocks. 6000 to 9999 were issued from May 60 to Dec 60.

I've noticed this block style of issuing for special purpose vehicles (ie buses, dust carts & milk floats) or other commercial vehicles.

Middx got absorbed into the GLC, and I happen to know that Ken Livingston ordered all the old paper records be destroyed so there's no chance you'll be able to find your vehicle in the county records.

I know other people similarly stuck trying to legally resurrect a barn find. The DVLA won't play ball anymore with supplying details previous owners from the old log book data.

We have a similar case in our workshop now - a '66 Cooper S which was exported to the US in the 60s, and has now come back - STILL with the original 60s UK plates on and several old tax discs. But DVLA say no - you'll have to have these other replacement plates - which still have a D suffix.

I don't understand why they don't just give the number back but as a * non-transferrable * .

Just to add - our client tends to call DVLA rather than email. He says that the people are either awkward and just say no - or very pleasant but can't help as the computer says no.
