Evening guys, thought I better pop in for a weekend update.
Saturday I stripped the front axle out and started to prep the underside for primer. And also cleaned up some untidy areas.
After a week of badgering my spindles are now getting somewhere, the basic idea is that I want to run porsche brakes however I don't want the track increase that you get with adaptor kits so the spindles are being re-machined.
I will then custom make caliper brackets to suit.
Nearly there time for a mockup before final finishing.
Very pleased so far.
Volksworld show today. Good day out lots of shiny bus's to look at! Picked up some vitals cam followers and bareings from Stateside, steering idler and hub nuts from C&C, new service manual, spring plates and shock mounts from Creative. This lot should keep me busy for the foreseeable as I can now build the motor.

Evening guys, got some bus time in tonight after work.
I have both spindles back from machining now, they still need th slot for the washer machining however I need to get measured for the caliper brackets so got them back for a week or so.
Had a stud to drill out and some dressing to do, also knocked the bushes out.
Got spring plates and shock mounts so trial fitted. Stock mount will require removal so got that sorted. Need to do the other side tomorrow. Offered the new mount up will set final position once new shocks arrive.
Alignment is an issue so can see why new mounts are required.
More tomorrow.

Marco, the hinges are straight forward, I managed to keep a set of holes on the inner skin so just drilled through from inside with my 90 degree air drill.
ahh i see, smart move.

Evening guys,
Had a couple of days working in the Scottish Borders this week so not much progress. However had a present waiting for me when I got home today!
Did a trial fit on the o/s/r, all went well however I did realise that I will not be able to use the CE mounts I bought! So I need to come up with some home brewed mounts in the chassis.
Bus work on Saturday!

id trim the metal above the spring plate if your planning on running it low, the front spindles look good, I've gone for boxster ones on mine will have to see if i can get them in as i don't really fancy the wider track

Morning, bus day yesterday and it was a reasonably productive one.
First up was finishing my spindles needed to extend the locking washer groove down the spindle.
With that finished I started looking at the rear shock mounts, with these I have decided to install a 20mm diameter boss in the chassis, after working out the positioning I have drilled through the rails the boss will then be welded into position once I have drilled it to take a bolt of course.
And finally we got some etch primer around the front underside and cab floor and seam sealing
.
More tomorrow.

Got over the unit today made some progress,
Got the shock mounts in.
Also took measurements from the spindles for caliper brackets. Need to figure out a cad drawing so I can get them lazer cut out.
Had a good tidy up this afternoon as the place was getting pretty messy.
More this week.

Hi
Can I ask why you couldn't use the CE rear shock mounts? I have a similar shock alignment issue and was going to buy a set myself. Am wondering now if i might be better off trying to 'un-pick' the existing mounts and re-align them?
Thanks

Hi Bud,
The CE rear mounts didnt work for me because I have narrowed the rear torsion beam. This makes the mounts to deep and causes alignment issues.
If you running standard width you should have no problems either re positioning the stock mount or using the CE ones.
Hope that helps cheers, Jim

Evening guys, only managed to get one day on the bus this week.
This morning I got the DA fired up and got busy on the chassis and engine bay. You would have thought it would be easy because most of it has been replaced but felt like hard work to me! Started getting a little crazy towards the end.
A quick panel wipe followed and then started mixing up the etch primer.
Left that curing for the night, seam sealer this week then!

Had some areas to blow in with etch that were thin so did that tonight, it dried super quick beacuse it was so warm this evening. So I made a start in the seam sealer.
One tube down! 5 + a can of brush on to go!
