few little updates....

first off i gave all my locks to Rick at schofields and he kindly managed to get them all free'd, replace the tired springs and they are now working on one key, a small detail but so happy to be able to finally lock the bus :D

Image

Image

during the snow and cold of the last few weeks two pipes in the unit burst. I got a panicked call from the caretaker and entered the unit to see my valance and bumper nearly floating under the bus 8O

After sweeping out the new water feature I swapped the 90's shocking pink tinware that was on my engine ( the engine came out of my first beetle, tastefully painted peppermint green with complimentary bright pink tinware :D circa 1996 )

Despite the protests from friends who said i should keep it the tasteful tinware, the pink engine/pink bus joke wears a little thin every time you have to open you engine lid to fill up and people laugh :D :D

here's the remnants of the tinware, i'm sure there's a photo somewhere of the old engine in all its pink glory. This piece was saved from the blasters due to being scrap!

Image

somewhat more boring but a little easier on the eye satin black, I also swapped the shroud over to a 30 horse style. Note the NOS pink see thru dizzy cap bought in Hessich of all places   thanks Gaz. ( coil attached temporarily here )

Image

the fuel tank i had in the bus since the build was borrowed, so i finally got round to modifying my own and getting it in the bus. The neck has to be cut and turned 45 degrees or so to allow for the tank to be pushed over to the left for the twin carbs.

Pete very kindly welded it back on for me!

freshly detailed the burners. Only took 20 mins with a scouring pad to go back over the detailed edges.

Image

few last bits tomorrow and friday and it should be back on its wheels for a test drive over the weekend and then ready for Volksworld next week

Late night last thursday saw it all buttoned up and back together.

Huge thanks to Gaz for helping me reset the ride height after a little fettle and adjustment of the torsion bars. The spring plates were at maximum adjustment so needed to move the splines round a click on the outer. Easy enough job just a little fiddly and nice to have a spare pair of hands to adjust each side in one go.

Image

Thursday also saw me return once again from my new favorite place my new trusty wheel polisher.

4 original deep 6's which belong to a buddy of mine and a pair of 4.5's which are mine. One of these was super curbed and has come up like new. Thanks again Cesil.

Image

Friday saw the re-installation of the door cards, sort a couple of wiring issues and a small test drive. All seems to be working just fine

Image

I had planned to come back today ( sunday ) and put some proper miles on it, clean the interior, give it a wash and basically check over everything one last time. But then the snow, again!!

Managed to back it out of the unit, wheel spin like crazy for a few mins, use it as a snow plough and put back!

tried a few wheel options up against it and went home :D

What a slammed, cool Bus...
Do you ever had problems with the straight axles, because your bus is so slammed.
This is my Bus and it's just a little bit higher than your bus. I want to put it down for another
centimeter, but I am afraid of my straight axles.
Do you have a gear box raise ?

Hi sorry its taken so long to reply I haven't been on here much this year. So far no I haven't had any issues at all. With time the fulcrum plates will get chewed up and will need replacing. Ive done over 8000 miles in it and haven't had any issues at all so far. The box isn't raised no. That being Said the cradle is in a slight different position on an early bus so its not quite as an acute angle. Your bus looks very similar height to mine in my opinion!
