Another half day spent tinkering fitting, checking.
But in the last half hour, the engine has been started for the first time
So completely cool to make up abit of electrical stuff. Get the new carb on. Then crank the engine over, and over, and over.
Check at point one of the igntion. Bricking it, in case the battery had a moment.
But the wonderful sound of the former Swiss water pump engine, flat four..... was beautiful.
And I have helped to sort it out. How cool is that

I haven't done an update in a while.
The engine is now safely in Hector. The rear valance was a so-and-so to fit, but it finally went back.
The next step was to fit Hectors US spec bumpers. These were not easy. I still need to fit the splash pans (what I didn't realise was the two holes you have the drill in the rear corners).
I still have to fit the correct rubber carb elbow, and pipe. The engine has not been seriously run, but sounds great in the van.
Here are some pictures of the US spec bumpers

I have been out in the dark fitting the oil bath, hanger, carb elbow, flexible tube, and heat exchanger warm air tubes. Also a temporary vacuum tube for the carb.
Will test engine tomorrow
Hector is also sporting a new horn push
I know this is a brief update, but it's stil an update.
Continuing thanks to everyone on here who helps, encourages, and send me the information I need for learning
Merry Christmas.
Miles.

It's nice to see it gradually coming back to life. Nice work.
I'm looking forward to this stage.

So it's day one of my weeks holiday. I was going to give H abit of a fettle, in preparation for the MOT later this month.
There is some not very nice carpet under the front seats. I removed these, and the glue has affected the metal.
I spent this afternoon sanding the paint back, and then primed the front seat. I hope the paint takes.

Well, about three weeks ago. I fitted the TR-59 Westfalia Towbar which I bought about fifteen years ago. It's only a towbar, but nice that's it's back on a bus
Very happy.

Very happy.

Yesterday I went to Lavenham, which was excellent.
The crap rainy weather was annoying though.
I spent an hour and a half trying to adjust my fan belt, in the pouring rain. In the end my mat was sodden, and I just knelt in the pool of water.
I discovered the bottom pullet was no good. It was a case of reassembling everything, getting the best tension. The key is to get stressed, then focus, take your time, and get the ******* job done
Ignore the bell-end "expert" who says ...."your dynamo, stand, and fan belt all look wrong, then says I don't have any tools, as I came in a T5."
I've always wondered what contribution these people make.
I would like to say a hearty "thank you" to the people who did help me
Anyways moving on, I have to be honest that i've never been entirely happy with the fan belt tensioning on my new engine.
I have done about 500 miles on my new engine. I fitted a new fan belt from Machine 7 about 300 miles ago. I have had to adjust it three time, to keep the correct tension.
The positive side was that Hector brought the family home under our own steam (no speedo warning lights), or slipping.
The bad news is that there is a definite problem with the top pulley.
I've put a post in the technical section viewtopic.php?f=6&t=116430
Can you help?
The show goes on

A tip of for you all.
If you have any problems with your dynamo, do not undo the flat head screws on the front of the dynamo.
If you do, you will hear a loud ping, and your dynamo will no longer function, your bus will be stationary, and you may feel slightly teed off.
You are likely to feel abit of a chump, but also want to blame the world at large who assumes you know all this ****
