Hi all,
Spent another couple of productive days with Rob the welder, my first job was routeing and soldering the main loom back together.

Image

We had to cut it to gain access and move it away from the chassis repairs but at least we'll be able to route and secure it to the chassis rails in a better position than it was.

Image

Only eleven wires to solder and sleeve

Image

Once the chassis been painted and stonechipped we'll P clip the trunking inside the rails

Image

Next job after more prep work was to start painting primer onto the finished bits on the o/s....................very satisfying.

Image

Image

Whilst I'm playing around the pro is getting stuck in with n/s sill, outriggers and top hat removal

Image

Notice something missing here ?.................................................. No C post bottom, wasn't there, somebody in the past had put a sill over this mess. 8O

Image

Some chassis repair needed here.

Image

Out with old and in with the new

Image

Front top hat and outrigger

Image

One of the rears done

Image

Image

Just getting ahead of ouselves, if only the outer sill was ready to go on.........lot's more to do yet.Now we have a line to work to we can remove the I beams and inner sill.
For the eagle eyed spotters out there we will be fitting the inner sill stengthener that is also missing.......................

Happy days

it is rewarding re-doing "properly" 50 years of "keep it on the road" repairs....
I am sure all of us who are "long in the tooth" know there are more repro/ new replacement parts availble to do it properly....whilst there are less and less OG NOS parts or even good cuts from OG buses available....to do it that way...
Doing an excellent job..
No less than Filly deserves...
good work..

Sometimes I need to see this sort of work to appreciate how spoilt I've been with 'just' having to deal with the ravages of time on mine and not the sort of shoddy jobs inflicted by others down the years (although I've encountered a fair share of those on previous projects too  )

It looks like it was in a right 2&8, coming together now though eh :D

Keep up the good work mate.

Thanks guys for the support, well pleased how it's moving along and defo worth it to know it's been sorted.
I tell you what, it just goes to show how somebody could be deceived when purchasing a vehicle.
I wasn't, I new what condition this bus was proberley in and purchased it accordingly but if you look at the wedding pic on the first post you could quite easily think wow that looks a nice bus.
Just goes to show what a good coat of underseal and shiny paint could be hiding..............beware!!!!!!!!

Great to see all the work comming along, just sorting out some similar repairs to our bus, cut the long side sill off today to find the inner sill and D post rusted out, or missing, not sure if the floor edge will need replacing, will have to get the underseal off first, wish I had done the sill first before we put the new front wheel arch on.

Thanks Wizzard,

Yeah, coming along nicely should have most of the n/s done this week. Will post up later in the week.

Yep if the sills corroded you can bet the inner and bottom of posts will be gone as well, condensation etc rotting from the inside out.
Cut it all out and replace you'll sleep better.

Know what you mean about the sill before wheel arch........ But then eveyone has there own way of working, some will cut and remove it all and build it up from what's left, we weren't so brave and took the route of removing only what we had to and keep as many reference points as possible.

Might be a slower way of working but you can't get it wrong................... So far

Nice to see a thread of quality work. We really need a list of recommended restorers to save the horror stories we see all the time on here

Cheers Ben, my man Rob will be made up, cheers.

Can't see any reason why we could'nt have a list of recommended restorers perhaps the mods could advise how to word it correctly but I would cetainly be happy to
start off with Robs welding service of Syresham who from personnel experiance does excactly what he says he's going to do and a bit more. If we start a list i'll post up contact details as I have
approval from Rob to do so.

Ok, been busy Fri/Sat and today we finished the prep for the n/s dog leg which will be fitted Mon/Tue and Rob made a start on the short rear sill.

Final welding of the repairs to bulkhead and B post [/size]

Image

Welds ground back, treated and tub prepped for dog leg

Image

Missing C post bottom replaced

Image

And after hours and hours of cleaning, underseal removal and sanding I got most of the chassis and the o/s wheel tub primed and seam sealed.
The aim here is to have the complete underside done the same, then off to the paint shop for it's new paint job, and when its back we'll finish the underneath with stone chip (light grey aqua 3000) and inner seal all the cavities.

Well that's the plan but just got the issue of some festivities later this week first :drunken:

Looking good. I can appreciate the hors of graft that you've put in. I've spent weeks cleaning the underside. Well worth it when you get a bit of primer on. You putting the stonechip on after painting? I was just gonna paint it then waxoyl it. Keep up the good work :)

Cheers Dave,

Yeah, we thought getting the underside sealed and primed then doing the paint work without having to worry about overspray underneath, (more coats the better ) way of looking at it, then when it's back we can apply the stonechip which wil give me The light Grey colour and light textured finish I'm after without having to paint this as well.

Defo waxoyl after paint otherwise your painter won't be a happy bunny.
Keep it up with yours, making good progress I see, and Merry Xmas.
