All looks good so far, I'd drop the 30mm pump though & go 26mm. It's only a small motor & the bigger gears may cause issues in the future without improving the drain back to sump. Just sayin... It's also worth checking the alignment of the oil pump inlet with the case hole, they can be a bit hit & miss. Did you plug the pump outlet in the case, I may have missed it?
As you've also found out, the oil hole alignment on all the bearings/case will need checking & also the fit & finish of the relief/cooler plunger holes too...
Good work buddy

Cheers the reason I'm using the 30mm is as that's what I have atm, I'm also planning on an external filter and cooler. I'll have to sucked the and see if think as I can't really afford a 26mm atm . I'll check the oil hole alignment as well thanks for the tip. the case has been cut and plugged to fit the external oil pipework too (thought I'd posted that too but must have missed it) cheers matt

so I managed to get some more work done a few days back, we managed to get the short block together after greasing all the bits that needed it with break in fluid etc , torqued to spec and it still rotates! - we have put the dizzy drive in as well as ade is sure we got it in right - I'm sure he has as hes pretty damn good
you can see the red paint marks that denote that the part have to go together in a certain way, this is as its all been dynamically balanced by a Subaru specialist in Plymouth
here is the finished shortblock

so I have done some more work on the engine , I have added the barrels and pistons and added the cylinder heads that we previously measured at 49cc we have also worked out the compression ratio to be correct with the shims we fitted ( I forget the sizes but I am sure it was all good at the time lol)
I also fitted the sump plate with new strainer and gaskets etc
I will change the end float soon as I don't fancy a seizure (I have been told on another forum that I need to set it to a larger figure as if set at 7 thou an ali case Is quite likely to sieze!)
