Eroica Britannia! I know a lot of peeps on here are into cycling. I did the ride on a c1950 bike made at my local bike shop less than a mile from our house. Harry was on a similar vintage Raleigh Lenton. The whole weekend was a blast. Great atmosphere at the festival, and on the ride all the locals were so friendly, and scenery was stunning. Can't wait for next year now.![]()

Mike,
I am looking to get a wagenwest front mount for my bus that's going into the transplant later in the year. Can order one for you at the same time to save the postage? they are $119 on their website.
Speak this weekend

Yes please matey! That would be perfect. Before you push the button though, let me check with Andy Heather if he can collect on one of his business trips over there. Might save a little on postage for us.

And a few shots from the European Hightop Gathering, well done all involved, this was a perfect little camp out! Good to meet old friends, and make a few new ones.

I guess it's had a few knocks in the past. I lost a little screwdriver down there for ages, that couldn't have helped as it got pummelled by the pulley!

Found time this weekend to split the gearbox that failed on us halfway through the OCD in May.

Right, not been on here for ages so time for an update. Not much going on with the bus, or the solid little 1500sp lump lovingly assembled for me by BJ1 ...
Upgrade is on the cards, eventually ... Sorry Brian!
Right now, our main focus is replacing the old garage that took up rather a lot of our small little garden, and had the Kombi and BSA shoehorned into it, along with all the other crap any decades old shed accumulates. It had started out as a humble little single garage, and had been progressively extended over many years, with whatever scraps of timber and tin the previous owner could salvage from the nearby shipyard where he worked.
Here it is on the morning of its execution >

A few hours later work is already well underway. Andy has carefully removed the windows and put them safely to one side. Once the cladding was removed (and no two walls were the same - weatherboarding, sterling board, T&G ... ) there wasn't much strength in the frame. Here's the roof coming off.

And once the roof was carefully out of the way, my gopro on timelapse duty decided to run out of battery ... Anyway, it only took a few well aimed kicks from Dan to reduce the shed to this.

And by mid afternoon we have substituted one complete shed, with an almighty pile of mostly rotten timber. (Sorting through it all took a couple of weekends and two circular saws, but we ended up with a couple of years worth of firewood, rather than a skip full for landfill.)

And by the end of the day after a sweep ...

Massive thanks to those who answered our facebook appeal for a little help, and who ended up pretty much taking charge and managing it all themselves!
Local mates Andy, Dan, Russ and Mo all gave up their precious spare time for a day. It was a great laugh, cheers guys! And also thanks to offers from further afield, much appreciated!

And what we (well, someone who can saw in a straight line, and not lose digits when hammering in nails. So not me then.) are planning to put in it's place. It's not far off what was there before, to be honest. We lived with it for a year before designing the new one. The long side is south facing and gets all the sunlight.
And this is why it initially got rejected by planning. Our garden is quite small for a pre-war semi, and even though the new build took up less room than what was there already, it was still too big for the garden, on paper at least. When we appealed the planning inspector didn't have a problem, once he'd seen neighbours outbuildings and garages.
And this is how it works in my head ... I still can't see how we can fit everything in comfortably, but anyway, our fault for having too much sh*t. Plan is to be able to winch the roof tent off the bus and into the eaves of the roof somehow. Oh, and to build doors big enough to drive in with it on as well. That is the biggest ball ache with the roof tent - having to take it off when you come back from a camping trip.
I'd like to be able to use all the roof space over the workshop area as storage for camping gear and all the other clutter I'm fed up with tripping over.
Me and Susie need the new shed to work hard, not only as somewhere dry to keep the Kombi and BSA, but also a usable workshop space for her stained glass work, and for me to tinker with vintage racing bikes ...

Mike,
You should think yourself lucky............
I had a similar idea in my little head (but in my case it was to extend the width of the garage to have a work bench on the side), but as it is an integral garage to the house, the first stage of planning permission (my lovely wife) rejected the idea
Instead we are having a new downstairs loo
Phil.
