Thats the same as Ive done, 3" each side to allow for the wider wheels. Have you got a build thread on here I can have a look at? Are you using the standard bottom mounts on the arms still? Ive seen a few guys put a beam across the top of the gearbox to mount them off, the issue is the movement as they dont move in a linear motion as you are aware, Im not sure how they address that? Uniball top mount??

No build thread on here, sorry bro. Maybe I should start one.

3" each side is a lot of narrowing. What width rear wheels are you running?
The 944 bottom arm mount will be used, not sure what top mount as yet. I have some CE top mounts so may use them or make my own but it'll depend on what shocks I use I guess....

Yeah start it! Loved the bus in your profile so if its similar then would be well up for reading that!

Was originally planning to use 9" split rim rears but that quickly halted as even with a narrowed rear torsion housing, mounting the bags outboard of the chassis rails was impossible, so it's on 7"s now.

Where do the tops line up to? Inside of the chassis or outside with your narrowed back end?

Nice! So the narrowed back end is to enable the fitment of wider wheels I guess? Was it on air before, cant recall??

No air bro, just ill fitting coil overs  I'm doing a complete overhaul of the running gear so it'll work properly this time

And yes the narrowing is to fit wide rear wheels.

Nice, I thought you had sold up and emigrated but I frequently get my wires crossed so wasnt sure.

Whats the motor spec your running? You need to do a build thread pal, I need to see it all!!

I did, I moved to NZ back in 2008 but I'm back now for a while (?) and thought I'd get the kombi out of storage and roll it 8)

EJ22 Legacy motor with Subarugears ring and pinion 5 speed Impreza box. I've ditched the 911 IFS and gone back to a beam, the 944 IRS is staying (with some improvements)

Thats enough of hijacking your built thread bro, I'll start one of my own in a while but theres not much to see right now as waiting on bits to arrive.

Got a little bit done yesterday, not much as Im full of man cold and ache like mad! Started on the exhaust...

Started by squashing the ends to match the T4 manifold flange.

Image

Then sliced two 90 degree bends to make a tee...

Image

Sliced...

Image

Then matched them in the vice...

Image

And zipped them all together, havent welded stainless for a couple of years so not my neatest welds, but by the end I was getting some tidy looking runs, happy with these anyway...

Image

Decided where the turbo is going too, no where near the original plan but means I can fit most of the valance which is a major plus!!

Image

Thats all for now!

Awesome mate! Looking great. That type4 is going to be an animal.

Going to be building my Turbo type1 over the next few months. Think I will pull the bus off the road at the end of the season to fit it though.

Keep going bud you are doing a fantastic job.
