Would you just fabricate a bit to go in here?

Old rusty metal cut out and 'new' piece cut to size. This was a serious amount of picking and trimming to get the section right for fitting. Still needs some final trimming but I've fitted her up to see how she looks. Not bad I reckon and nice German steel to go back in when I've prepared the metal.
Just need to fabricate a small piece to fit near the arch but I'll sort that when the rest is in place.

Looking good there mate. And yes I'd just fabricate a bit for that arch if the rest is still good. The more OG metal you can save the better in my opinion.

Today was a good solid 5 hours getting the rear quarter and battery tray in. I reckon it's my best bit of welding so far. I thought it was pretty tricky to line up all the parts but I think it's fitted nicely and the valance goes on well and the engine cover closing lines are good. The panel is OG too so looks a little battle scarred consistent with the other side. Got some making good to do here and there but gave her a lick of zinc primer until I can get back down the cave.

Cheers mate, I learnt that it was impossible to clamp it exactly in place and start welding as the metal is original as you know and so bruised and battered here and there (which I love but makes it tricky lining it all up). I had to clamp sections as I went along to get the curve right while all the time checking the opposite end and inside the wheel arch. That part worked a treat though so nice one.

Looks good
That rear quarter lines up nice and as you say, the gaps when the engine lid is closed are spot on. Can't beat a bit of OG metal

Cheers mate, bit more progress today making good the quarter, fabricating the small piece and welding that in and then a complete change putting some silent coat in to break the grind/weld/grind/weld.
Is anyone able to tell me how to weld these plates in for the rear seats? They make no sense to me at all and look nothing like the piece that came out! They're Schofields by the way.
Token one of my T5!!

DOH ! Check your first page where you were cutting out the cargo floor. You will notice the seat plates on the old floor. You may have to put the seat in to get it all positioned ? I'll try and work out what measurements are required so you can weld the plates in. Seats are secured by a bracket that loops over the legs/feet of the seat. The bolt that secures the bracket has a sort of anvil look so it slots in the round hole then slides up the channel. You then slip the bracket over the bolt and the arched bit of the bracket over the leg of the seat and use the wing nut to tighten it all down. I'm guessing you don't have the bolts n brackets or you may have worked it all out ?
Confused ..............you will be
