Cheers, don't think I'll be going to bugjam as don't really go to many shows these days. Would love to take the van down the strip though - maybe when I get that corvair motor back in!!

Well i went to the dvla office today to get the van registered which normally takes 2 or 3 days - they now have to send it off to swansea which can take up to 3 weeks!! Next drive is slightly on hold then!

Anyway, yesterday i took delivery of my Rusty Lee rock and roll bed It looks great and i fitted it today. I also made up my rear seat belt mounts as i`ve been holding off to see where they need to be in relation to the seat.

I also made up some rear seat belt mounts - the ones on the arch multitask as mounts for the rock and roll bed aswell and i fitted some underneath. Ideally, i wanted to put them in the sloping bit which backs onto the fuel tank, but to do that would mean engine out and gearbox out (!) so i settled for putting them in the lower bit above the gearbox which just reachs (when it has cushions).

The mount above my shoulder i took a bit of inspiration from graham (type2f) and his mounts. I took the strenghtening struts from a donor panel i had for above the engine, cut them out and modified them to suit the curve of the van. This created a new 'd' post allowing me to mount a thick panel between with 'c' and 'd' post with nuts welded on the back. Pretty pleased with it actually It will all be hidden behind the panelling when i get round to doing it!

As you say the issue is to have them above and behind the shoulder position..
Research tells me that in an accident forward motion of the body whilst the vehicle is decelerating causes a downwards crush injury if the belt mount is too low!


OH and I have read it will be much more difficult because they are closing all the local DVLA offices and you will have to deal remote or in person with DVLA Swansea..
Took me all of 12 minutes for getting the papers for type21f and an hour to help an Austrian lady with two children all of whom were crying...
After all she had only been driving round in the UK for three years with no UK registration on her Austrian car! LOL

Yes, they re closing the Bournemouth office I went to in October - I thought they'd still be able to do it there unroll then though! Oh well!

Thanks for the pics of yours - I mulled over how to fit then for a while. I was lucky I had the donor panel with the struts on hanging round - they made s perfect d pillar with a few cuts from the grinder And a tickle with the welder

I made them the same height as the cab belt mounts which looked ok when I was Sat on the rear seat

AUJ 728A All legal to drive now! Well, might have to make do with some cardboard plates until they get printed!

For the fire truck I printed some real big white on black and laminated them at work and used gaffa tape wrapped round on itself...
Fine till a wag at work whipped them both off as a prank...

its pouring down this afternoon, so i thought it was a good opportunity to test the wipers!

need to shorten one slightly as it over the rubber and therefore not contacting properly. Also, i noticed, if i brake hard for a junction, i get torrents of water running down the roof and pouring over the top of the windscreen!!

Looking good there dude. I really dig that roof rack as well, reminds me on the sort that you'd get on an old zephyr hearse I'm glad you didn't paint it or try to pull all the dents out.

Great pics of your cool bus, I was in that very spot 2 weeks ago in heat you could hardly stick! sea for a cool down was the order of the day and it was the clearest we have ever seen it in Weymouth lovely!

yes - defo drop me a pm if your down this way The roof rack is bolted through the roof! I was told it was actually a squareback roofrack but i don`t - anyway its all sealed now, so hopefulyl not leaking in!

There was no way i was going to mess with the paint or scrapes, but you wouldn`t believe the amount of people who have said to me - 'So, are you keeping it the same colour when you respray it?'. They look at me like i`m mental when i say i quite like the way it is!!

Coolerdub - thanks! Its a lovely spot there - we go down for breakfast there sometimes. Today, it was so quiet because of the bad weather, there was noone there and i was hoping to get some sea mist into the pics, but got there and my decent camera was missing the SD card(!) so the mobile phone camera had to make do.

Hoping for some wind and waves there tomorrow to get out kiting !

I`ll get some pics of the interior which is pretty much finished up in the next few days. Just finishing covering the last cushion tonight -



My wife has gone out on a hen do, leaving me with needles, cloth and beer - i swear the stitching is getting straighter the longer the evening goes on!

Still repairing my seat frame, used eight springs, had to weld the slider back in position and the spring pack frame requires two runs of weld as well...both seat back adjusters were seized...one sheared off the other had to be sawn off...did not give in...even with some heat ..
Now I wonder if a nice person will let me have two...one is easy to remove..the other is being dosed with penetrating oil as we speak...

if there are any adjusters on the frame, please take them Mine are fine. On my seat frame, the actual frame was bent from all the years of being sat on - must have been a 'big boned' person!

Just sewing the rest of my last cushion up tonight, but also made this tonight-

Welder wasn`t playing ball tonight unfortunately, so think i might clean the untidy welds up instead of leaving them...
