just had a look and i think you may be right, david (our welder) said he preferred it that way as the recess would form less of a water trap but it does look kind of a bit odd to the eye. its only tacked in though so easy fix.

nice catch dude

cheers mark, yeah, the work is ahead of my pics at the minute. add this project to 5 others in the shop and I've got thousands of pics to sort through every month.

anyway, red9 kits on and fitted, took a bit of fiddling around but its all on and set up now, plus looking sweet.

all thats left to finish on the body now is,

rear bulkhead needs fully welding up and finishing off,
belly pans, when i decide which way we are doing them (check your inbox about that one mark I've been picking your brains)
side vents which will be relocated sideways to improve air flow. for this though they need lengthening so we have a local company pressing some new ones out for us.

things are looking good buddy well done

Red 9 always looks good ..... nice bit of kit  ( wonder why I say that  )

Ref ya belly panel you know what I feel about how they should be fitted ... so over to you now boss

( where I fitted the belly panel against the chassis I ran a bead of seam sealer and dabbed it all the way along,
so once the under side of the bus was all painted the I then screwed the belly pans on the sealer acts like a cushion effect rather that hard metal surface against hard metal surface .... stops any rubbing / its a sound deadner / and I'm just pain fussy about sh!t like that lol )

you can see the sealer effect on the chassis rails where I was to bolt the belly pans on to

you can see how the sealer acts as a cushion behind the belly panels once they are fitted

cheers for the info once again mark, you're a good'un

lots happening this week, mostly a lot of tedious tidying up and smoothing welds and panel edges underneath the bus... yawn!

but first......

wheels are here!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :compress: :compress:

been waiting for these for a while and they are stunning. reverse bolted three piece splits customs made to our spec. lovely.

now on to the underside, yes I'm filling certain sections that I'm sure i real don't need to but my OCD has taken hold.

and then after a LOT of prep, rust treating, and cleaning, etch primer is applied.

and once dry, the real pain in the ass job, sealing all the seams and blocking off any possible water traps.

looking great, really coming together the red 9 kit is really nice i'm looking forward to fitting mine. are you bothering with clutch cable/ accelerator cable guide tubes? i'm looking to go hydraulic clutch on mine then don't have to bother routing that large diameter tube through the chassis. have you used sikaflex to seal the seams?

next step.

underseal,

great fun to spray.

you'll note the awesome posture.. and i wonder why I've got a bad back??!!

and now we wait. the underseal we used has a rubberised texture to it so when it dries it feels, well, rubbery. it dries solid but you can still squidge it a bit but you can't leave fingermarks in it if that makes sense. its solid, but its not. good stuff. it should be perfect for stopping those pesky stones chipping the paint underneath the body.

it did take a while to dry, although only in the areas where the sealer was, it took about a week until it was completely cured but different chemicals react differently with each other. once it was all fully dry though, we painted.

unfortunately the shortcomings of our frame mean we will have to do a couple of local repairs once the body is off the jig and the rear corners are welded on, but it gave us so much access and made things so much easier i can forgive this.

and now we wait again.

Thanks Mark. I am pretty pleased with how things are progressing. Its a long, slow grind but I think Andy is doing a great job. I am excited to see the bus on the red9 and new wheels and then get going on some of the exciting custom details.

Not a lot has happened the last year. The shop working on the bus expanded and got busy and I got busy with life and running a few businesses. As of last friday however the bus was being pulled out and getting ready to push hard for completion. The next step is to try to figure out how to get an autobox thats compatible with a Subaru boxer engine. I just imported a Land Rover Defender to Cayman to drive and my wife made it quite clear she would prefer to have an automatic transmission. Please keep in mind this bus is only ever intended to be a cool ride to enjoy and pick people up at the airport. It is not supposed to be for resale or be original.
