accident damage split.

Had a few hours of rubbing down, filling, and more rubbing, only to find a couple of holes near the cab door catch, someone had pushed paper into the door pillar and then filled over it, not good.
After cutting out the damage and grinding back it's not too bad, as we're putting a skim of filler over the lower section a extra bit won't make that much difference.
The long side was always going to be a problem as the previous owner had said "there was some damage when he bought it", you can just see the layers of colour on the side from repaints over the years.
Wer'e are hoping to have the side sanded and ready for primer by the end of the week, then onto the final prep on the inside before paint.

The last few weeks have been busy with all the bodywork and repairs done, we decided to crack on with the primer and tape up the sections that were to be painted first, the cream top section, as we're short on space and it's a heavy beast to move around doing one side at a time looks the only option.
Here's the offside top rear in primer and then in paint.

We hope to have the lower section in paint (mint green) by the end of the week, along with the front panel done.

While everywhere was covered in snow this week we still had to spend some time in the garage, (thankfully had the mobile heater on)
once the upper cream paint was done and hard enough we retaped the side and laid down some mint green, trying to get the waistline
joint as close to the cream as possible, difficult to tape up on the lower edge (so dont look too close) but thats one side done.

Image
On to the other side moving the camper across the garage to gain access, taping the cream again to spray the near side and rear corners green, we had to leave it for a few days before starting to wet flat the side, as you can see from the pictures the shine started to appear, slowly starting with 600 grade paper, then onto 1000, 1500, then onto a 2000 grit foam pad as recomended by nige (thanks mate) used this on the sander on a slow speed.

The surface was then ready for the buffer with some G3 cutting compound, available from most auto paint supplies, you should be able to see the difference as we progress through each step, as the reflections get clearer.

Now the down side to all this, we managed to buff through to the primer on the window aperture and around the rear hatch opening,
so another day painting and more care with flatting of next time around the edges, so will have to be extra carefull around the front wheel arches and front panel.

Took out the rear heater pipe for a clean up and hopefully reinstall it closer the the seat kick panel, no one will see it but it's going to be painted cream to fit with the rest of the interior.

Image

Finished a couple of jobs while we had enough cream paint mixed, final coats on the cab area and floor, and covered the rear bumper and irons, now we can fit this back in place an save it getting damaged, still got the over riders and quarter rails to paint

When the bus got hit it took out the rear light, bought a new one only to find there's no earth tag, took a strip if steel cut to the correct size for the connection, welded it into place and tested for opperation and now it's another piece we can fit.

Had a few days in the garage trying to put the fixed windows in, difficult to say the least on your own, so the Mrs had to be prised away from the house to help, the old trick with the cord in the rubber worked a treat with the help of a little washing up liquid.

Putting in the new front screens was just as easy, we had a couple of new laminate glass ones made by a local supplier, so have a couple of origionals going spare, could have had tinted glass but went with plain old clear, new rubbers all round so should have a chance of keeping the water out.

Started to fit out the cab area and put the dash guages back in, new cab carpet just have to make up some new kick panels.

Looking good. I painted my bus in a similar fashion (side at a time) but decided to do the lower panels first as it's easier to mask up the colour change at the beltline cos you're not trying to bend your tape around compound corners.

However, you're done now and it's looking swell.

Well done.

Thanks nige, I looked at your thread and was inspired by what you did in a similar situation, it's not easy as anyone knows, but can be done in a small space, it just takes more time to get the job done.

Bloody masking and remasking was the bit I hated!

Lots more of it doing it piecemeal like I/we did.

Dispite the snow falling again in this part of the UK we had a good couple of days in the garage, after advice about how to keep the camper warm we took a trip down to our local B&Q for some multi-perpose insulation, its flexible enough to fit into most places and simply glued in place with spray glue, not sure yet if we pad out the space between the interior panels with more insulation.

Moved onto fitting the roof lining we bought from Martrim, starting with the sides around the windows long side first, and then moving onto the pop outs, the seals should keep it nice and tight once it's all in.

The delivery of one of Jims servo kits arrived, looks good and as everyone says will improve the feel of the brakes, not sure yet where to fit it, it looks small enough to fit behind the beam, going to have a look at the weekend as not seen one fitted to a walkthrough splitty.

Image

Also added new washer jets for the windscreen, there usually found on classic mini's but look good in their new home, now to find a new place to fit the washer bottle.
