Cheers Kev, the wheels are a bit marmite, you either love them or hate them. I liked them at first, but now I'm going off them.

They are a tight fit...


and the installation of the rear shocks isn't going to be easy



but the arms are so tidy



Anyway, I've bought these as a backup

There is no way those Fuchs are going on with those arms!
Are they 7"s?

I doubt you will even get 6"s.

You bottom shock mount sits around where mine does, I have removed the original shock mount, and then have strengthened the chassis and sunk a mount into the chassis rail (made out of drilled and tapped 1"bar)

The mount is just up enough so the shock does not clash with the bottom of the chassis rail

Im running empi 5's & they are as tight as that! Nightmare to change the wheel.
What colour scheme are you going for?

Oops, some you win...thats going to be fun then. I was pretty much resigned to hacking up some steel arms to get a solution in the same way Bug box got 7"s on theirs, it may need changing anyway depending on what happens to the gearbox...

I'm sure we'll work something out in time.

Strangely enough its going to be beige grey over sealing wax red..??

It should be white over mouse grey but I fancy a change. I was trying to find the paint code for Aston Martin Racing Green but its not looking hopeful...

I dont know, they would have been fitted by Marcus Osbourne who used to own the bus and was working on it at Resto Classics near hastings before he emigrated. I spoke to Phil there before I bought it and he was quite familiar with it all so I guess he could help?

There's not much too it, the arms are fitted to brackets on the beam thus...


and there are spacers fitted between the spring plates and the arms to reduce the OTT track like this


I hope that helps, just make sure you get wheels with a lot of offset (I think these chunky beasts are 55mm, whereas the Fuchs are ~23 hence Pauls comment!)

Looks to me that he has cut the Porsche a arm brackets from the rear torsion beam (which is removable on a 944) and then welded them onto the bus torsion housing.

I thought they looked nicely made, too curvy to be fabricated.

I've just got in touch with the bloke I was buying the Fuchs off, he says he's got another buyer who would take them. Phew, still feel like a plonker though.

Just a wee update. The prep is nearly finished and the painting will commence any day now.

We found a few bits missing/wonky such as missing jacking points (prbably deliberate to tidy the lines?) and the recess on the cargo doors was in the "wrong" place so I had to get them "fixed"

they are indeed 944 pivots cut ooff and removed

- a 944 torsion housing, -if you get a late one, is actually the same size as a type 2

the problem you will have thou, is the springplate is still stock
hense tyre clearance


-i am trying at the minute to fit the complete 944 turbo rear torsion housing
-it then brings the springplates inwards 30mm
-plus you can use the rear roll bar

-but you have to fab a trans mount

-oh and by the way, you have abs rear 87 on arms -951 but 85 only hubs
i think you can fit 996/boxter rear discs, getting a 299mm by 26mm disc
-as the 85 onl ones are 180 quid each


-still you can guatrantee the inner pivots will be jigged up

are yur springplate spacers adding up to 28mm?


-ps how the .... do you get the bolt in??

I've hardly given the rear suspension a thought recently...

The spacers are roughly 28mm total I'd guess, I haven't seen them in ages.

I had a look at the disks last week. They are in fact pretty much new, they are totally flat. The photo makes them look awful. I checked with Porscheshop.co.uk about the disks - the fronts are £49.90ea and the rears £60ea.

Judging by the sizes of the pistons in the calipers and the 85 stamp on them, they appear to be 86 Turbo calipers (951 352 421/2 00) - I took them to Porsche Silverstone and they thought so too and are getting me some rebuild kits.

I'm not sure I follow about the bolt? Are you refering to the lower shock bolt? For the upper mounts I was going to chase up Paul_F or poss or some Creative top mounts??

I just want to get it moving now, if there's something seriously wrong pls let me know - I cant fix it myself so I'll need to take it somewhere...?

I realise that the rear track is a bit snug and that it may not look quite as bling as it could as long as it works I'll be happy for now.

I wouldn't mind doing some serious work in future to allow me to squeeze in 7"*16 Fuchs and I'd also like a Bug Box steering rack conversion... who knows?

-if you have the late hubs and discs, you can fit 944 85 only hubs -liek the ones above
-they are not the same spline as steel armed 944 stuff

-this way, you can come down from the 100mm hat discs
-and use 75mm hat discs

-ps you can get off the shelf adaptors , to run radial mount 'new'
monoblocks

-ps i think if you have actuall moved the arm over 28mm, and have 205's on a 6 inch rim, that you have the late discs
-you can gain -25-30mm, just by getting the hubs
