by vanbloke » Sat Nov 14, 2015 9:24 am
Hi everyone, we are thinking of going to the Isle of Wight next summer :) so our bus is lowered and narrowed, not really slammed to the floor, has anyone found difficulties in getting on ferries with their ramps please :) cheers :?: :?: :) :) :) :) :)

i took a car and thought nope bus isnt going to get on here without banging the box or scraping something, only on dropped spindels, its the angles of the ferry and the concrete ramp but im sure many have done it as they hold a show over there

Not been to the isle of wight - but done multiple ferries to France and Netherlands. Just go on at an angle - take your time - scrapes a bit but I've never had an issue.

Been to IOW loads of times (Lymington) if the tide is in you will have a little steering box rub...!!!
Approach the ramp a bit sideways steering side last, you will be fine.
I'm running dropped spindles, Creative weedeater on max height setting 15" wheels on 175 55 15 tyres.

Talk to the ferry company, they may have a plan.
I have organised ferries for slammed busses before and some companies have things in place.

Try to go on last.
If you cant go on last do not get intimidated by the normals behind you.
It sounds like you have plenty of clearance though.

Follow the good advice about coming in at an angle. Slowly does it. You have a box guard right...?

I take a couple of bits of wood, just in case, but i have never used them, and im down a touch further than you.

My bus is lowered a few inches, I found getting on and off the ferry fine, but slammed her exhaust (broke the welds on a quite pack) on the road in cowes crossing from the waiting car lanes to the ferry the first time I went, so might want to watch out for that, but once you know to go at an angle it's ok. Love the Isle of Wight by the way
